Lim Nasi Lemak & Fried Chicken
My family has been raving about this fried chicken at SS14/1 for a long while now and finally I had the opportunity to try it.

Lok Lok in KL
I am a malaysian. Don't let anything about the way I look, speak and think fool you. Not for one moment. And yet, as I travel more to Kuala Lumpur for work, my malaysian colleagues are dissing me about one huge thing.
I never tried Lok Lok before. Ever.
"How can a malaysian never try Lok Lok before?"
"People from other countries COME here to try it!"
And yes, the fact of the matter is, I never did try anybefore. My mom said it's dirty so I just took her word for it and avoided it. Never felt the urge for it since young. Well until a friend of mine told me that they offer deep frying and grilling as options to cook the spread of Lok Lok now. I was like o.O!? Really?!
So after so much talk, so much dissing, I decided that it's about time it stopped. I must try Lok Lok. Even at least once.
I saw a Lok Lok stall and charged right at it. Lok Lok stalls can be found most anywhere in KL. I decided on a stall near a coffee shop for my virgin attempt at Lok Lok.

The conclusion, not nice. Haha! My family who brought me here said it's not nice. There are better ones around. Well, super! So I have to go try another stall again huh! :)
So have you tried Lok Lok before?
Friday's Here!

Bubba Gump Shrimp @ Sunway Pyramid (KL)
This is a grossly overdue post so don't mind me if I forget most some of the details. :P
It was May in 2009 when Bubba Gump Shrimp in KL's Sunway Pyramid was opened not too long and it was Mom's birthday so I decided to give her and the grandpies a treat at this new place.
According to my Mom, Bubba Gump is big in the US but I haven't heard of it. Since the proof of the pudding is in the eating, we had to go try!
We ordered quite a few dishes to share and tried hard to ensure we didn't order too much shrimp. Believe me, it was hard. They are known for their shrimps afterall.
Ended up ordering everything with at least some shrimp in them. Haha! Ok let's see some peektures already ya!

I think this last dish had some fish in it as well!
Well, all in all, if you are a shrimp lover, you need to go to this place. I love shrimps but there at Bubba Gump, for the first time in my life, I was decidedly overdosed on shrimps. GAH.
If you ask me, I think this place warrants only one visit. Only for the reason that there seems to be a lack of variety in their menu.
I rate this: 3.5/5

Recipe: Pig's Trotter with Old Ginger and Vinegar
Yes! It's recipe time!! *ding ding ding*!
Been a while since I last shared recipes on my blog. So, here's one that I found on the internet and tweaked it slightly. Tried this recipe thrice already.
Ingredients
1 pig's trotter (front trotters preferred)
1 kg old ginger, washed and smashed with skin on
5-8 hard boiled eggs (depending on how many you are serving)
5 Tbsp sesame oil
600 ml black vinegar (use Black Dog brand available at most supermarkets)
300 ml sweet vinegar or 200 gm brown sugar
500 ml filtered water
Method
1. Clean and chop the trotter into big pieces.
2. Blanche the trotter in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drained.
3. Heat sesame oil in a wok and fry ginger till golden brown and fragrant.
4. Put in the trotter in the wok and brown the pieces slightly. Take the trotter pieces out and set aside in a plate.
5. Transfer ginger, sesame oil into a claypot. Pour in the black vinegar and the sweet vinegar. If no sweet vinegar, brown sugar will do. (you may vary with the vinegars or sugar, as per your own taste).
6. Bring to boil and gradually add the filtered water. Simmer the ginger for 30 minutes and add in the trotter pieces. Continue to simmer for 40 minutes to 1 hour.
7. Put the shelled hard boiled eggs into the vinegar gravy and cover. Place the pot into an induction cooker* and let it stay in there overnight.
8. Next morning, you're all ready to feast!
It is yums! :D
*I heard that for induction cookers, Tiger brand is good. But I using ENDO brand, which is good too IMHO. :)
Yong Tau Foo @ Jln Besar / Allenby Road
Here's a picture of the most delicious Yong Tau Foo in Singapore!
It's along Jalan Besar in a inconspicuous old coffee shop at the junction of Allenby Road and Jalan Besar.
Seriously, this is the best - and this is from someone who don't even like YTF previously! The laksa soup is thick and not overpowering. The Kang Kong goes SUPERBLY well with it. But I think I like the bittergourd best. It's bitter but not too bitter. Haha! Just right la!
The stuffed tau kee and stuffed tau foo are definitely worth my limited stomach space as well.
4/5 Must try!!

I blogged about this before, everything's still as good 2 years since the last review I did on them. So make do with this yummy looking photo post!

iPhone App Reviews (Godfinger & River Test)
Here's another installment of iPhone App Reviews!

Review of High Noon (iPhone Game)
Ever since I got my iPhone 4, I have been literally glued to it! But this is not a post to rave about how great the iPhone is.
This is a review of the following iPhone game.
High Noon (Free on iTunes)
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later
I was looking for free games to download and chanced upon this. To sum it, your iPhone is your weapon and your finger is the trigger. So get trigger-happy! It's a multiplayer one-on-one game where you have to shoot the opponent (a real player, not computer) and the person that dies first loses.
There are of course many things that tip the scale:
- Different type of guns that feature different number of bullets and shooting style.
- Special equipments like flour sack, dynamite, lassos, whiskey, voodoo dolls and more
So the objective of the game is to win one-to-one duels, earn gold, and level up! Here are three things that I really like about the game:
- Wildcat Challenge
When you click on Wildcat challenge, you are in the queue for a random matchup for a duel with another player. I love this. It's very fast (which means there's a lot of people playing this game) and you really get a whole range of people from the newbies to the veterans!
- Holster Your Weapon!
The first time I started a duel, I was amused by the instruction to holster my weapon (iPhone). I literally had to hold my phone upside down and wait for the "TING TING" to signify the beginning of the duel. So fun!
- The Music
Sorry, I think I like even the music. Haha!
Having said the good, there are of course things which I hope can be improved:
- Challenge a Friend
It's a great feature. But it doesn't seem to work. I tried it with a few friends, they tried it with their friends, I went online to search - all without an answer. Happylatte said on their FB that most people on High Noon are often engaged in a game and are hence mostly unavailable - which brings me to my next point
- Always In A Game
I believe it's their back end mechanism which is connected to the "Wildcat Challenge" function whereby users who are not shopping/in a game will be sucked into a "challenge" by users who click on the "Wildcat Challenge" function.
Again, that's great but there should be an option to turn this off! A "do-not-disturb" button of something! The only time I get to rest is when I am out of juice... on to my next point.
- Out Of Juice
There is an energy bar whereby every game/every time you steal gold from someone else, your energy bar is deducted. Reach zero and you will either have to wait till your energy is recharged (which can be 30 mins-a couple of hours) or buy energy juice using Wampums* before you can play again.
*Wampums are given when you level up or you can also buy using real money (contributions to the developer).
Alright, that's all I've got. If I had to pay US1.99 for it, I would. But nothing more than that.
Love the game! :)
If you're on High Noon too, add me on your shitlist! This is my High Noon ID: 173819653

Hello Mature Aged Student
Today, I was innocently surfing Facebook... and then I received a new message.

Giving the Kitchen an Extra Oomph
Yes my friends!! After so many months of planning, sourcing and finally the purchase of a blackboard for my kitchen, it is finally up on the wall!!
Just to share with everyone, I got inspired by some magazine photo of a home and decided that a blackboard in the kitchen would definitely make it homely and that extra fun factor. I could leave notes, write recipes, doodle and so much more.
Doodling will get me a ready art piece that I can redo anytime I want. So yes, I decided that a blackboard's what I needed.
I went everywhere that sold this and finally bought mine for $45 at Bras Basah. It's exactly what I wanted and at the best price! :D I checked out art friend, Popular and all the shops at Bras Basah - finally to find my choice gem.
See!!

Drill?? That's mighty permanent stuff right? Gosh. What if.... I drill wrong or I drill myself or I drill too big a hole???
The thought of it all was too much to bear. I had this whole extensive professional looking drill set borrowed from my boss and it just sat there while I plucked up the courage (so what if it took me weeksss!!) to pick it up.
So one day, I decided. It's time. No more waiting. No more fear. We are going to do it!
I rolled my sleeves up (metaphorically) and got to work.
1) I plugged it in
Yes. As you can probably imagine, step 1 is pretty obvious.
2) I pressed the trigger
Like literally. Out came this AWFUL zhnnggg zhnnnggg sound. I cringed at the thought that it's 9pm at night when I attempted this.
3) Testing it out first of course
A trial run, I decided, was best. I took a brick, squatted in the toilet, closed the door and drilled with all my might. Oh gosh, the sound.
4) Maybe I should Google it right?
And I found a video on "HOW TO DRILL GUIDE - FOR GIRLS". I thought that's perfecttt!!! Should be in women's language right? I mean, no big words like screw or anything right? Just the "round curly sharp metal" thing - kinda language yes?
5) And then it got complicated
Of course, with information, you start to get a lot more than press the trigger, aim and shaft it in the wall right? So then, with more information, it got more complicated. :/
6) 1 hour on
And yes, I was still surfing for more information....
7) Really, it's TIME
It looked like google wasn't going to give me the details and breakdown in simple english and I am never going to fully understand.... (more so since I am never the kind that reads instruction manuals)
So I decided to, in full NIKE-spirit, JUST DO IT
8) I hold and aim
*lips pressed tightly together*
9) AND I FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh god the sound!! But never mind that! The drill head (or whatever you call the tip of the drill) kept slipping off the mark!!
10) ....................
And, as you can probably guess, I chickened out.
I watched the house come to life and a wrong dent will break my heart.
Of course, it seemed at that point that, it was time to call in the professionals. Glad I did because finally it's up! :D
I'm so happy about it! I doodled a bit on it and the BF added something really sweet just before he left for Sweden... see!

So if you're looking to add a little interesting edge to your kitchen, a blackboard / chalkboard is it! Heard people say it's dusty? Well you're not a teacher and your kitchen is not a classroom. How much and how often do you write on it to chalk up (pun intended) considerable enough dust?
But for those who still don't wanne chance it, there's another option of chalkboards that has advanced since our primary school days and it now looks the same as before from afar, but feels and writes like a whiteboard. The markers look like whiteboard markets but writes like chalk.
It was pretty tempting to get that option. But at the end of the day, I decided that close up views + the feel of chalk gave it all the extra ommph and romance and so, the traditional chalk and duster is it for me.
Yet another option for those interested is this thing called Chalkboard paint. You can get this at Spotlight and paint the entire wall with this special paint.
Once painted and dried, your entire wall becomes a chalkboard and you can use chalk to write on it! How cool huh! Once you're sick of it, just buy another pot of paint and paint it over! Great for parents with kids who love drawing on walls!
Just note that they may grow up never understanding that there must be NO WRITING on walls! :P
Well I hope you enjoyed this little installment of home decor ideas. Let me know what you think!
