Climbing rocks or rock climbing?

It's been YEARS since I last did any rock climbing. So I was pretty pleased with my efforts last Friday. Yes, I went to climb some rocky wall! :D

Jimmy, Shan and Hooi were there as well. So since Jimmy was the one experienced one in rock climbing, he did all the work - belaying!

So we newbies were excited and full of pride as we begun our ascending journey.

First off, we got a few lessons in tying the "8" knot from Master Jimmy.

This is Shan, on her first attempt. Got to admire her for her determination. Is it wrong of me to think about food before I even started climbing?

I like this pose of Hooi. She looks like a pro already haha!

And this is me! Half way up the wall. Thinking, why the hell is this so hard?

Honestly, there's more to rock climbing than scaling rocks. It really works on your mental determination. See I am hanging so high up there already and I am halfway to the top. My arms ache...terribly and the next rock looks so far away (hey not every rock can be held on to)!

What do I do?

Suck it up and push ahead? But my body has no strength to push me up anymore.

Let go and give up?

I think I am lazy. Not determined. Cos just the thought of having to climb half the wall again to continue my wall to the top makes me push ahead. Haha! Makes sense doesn't it?

When I do reach the top, my ache is forgotten and I get such a great sense of satisfaction! Will I do it again? Yes I will. And this time, I will push myself harder.

Shan did really well. Check out her cute froggy kungfu pose. LONG LOST SHAOLIN FROG ok.

I ached for 3 days in a row after that. My fingers, forearms and arms were weak and ached like mad. SHIOK. Haha! If you have flabby arms, this is IT for you man. Cos the underside of my upper arms ached like &#(&#(!@#*!@.

I did this at Civil Service Club @ Tessensohn road. $16 for entrance fee, harness and shoe rental. The bouldering room was fun too.

Let's go on a journey of life!

"Voyage de la Vie" is a circus theater spectacular. A moving story of a boy's rite of passage to becoming an adult, a story told through song and dance.

Check out the "trailer" here:

Wouldn't you love to watch a show like that? I know I would. Besides the magnificent sets, the colorful and elaborate costumes and amazing circus feats, this is the first ever circus theatre to ever be created in Singapore. Jonathan Leong who was in Singapore Idol before is cast as the show's lead. I wonder how has his singing improved since the Idol days… he is definitely living his dream now! :D

Check out the raving reviews from people who have watched the show! Gets me all excited!!

I'm a huge fan of live shows. Especially those with singing, with stunts, with a story of romance, conflict and danger. Gets all my happy hormones churning. :P Live is definitely better than any 3D show any time!

Will it be mesmerizing? Will it be stunning? I can't wait to find out for myself @ Resorts World Sentosa. :)

P.s.: Viktor Kee acts as Lantern Keeper in the show. I love his juggling acts! Completely awed by his act in Dralion.

If you can prevent a cancer, wouldn't you?

People always think of Cancer as fatal, deadly, incurable... but wait. I'm sure you've heard of Cervical Cancer right?

Did you know that although Cervical Cancer is the ONLY women cancer that CAN be prevented by a vaccine, 1 woman in Singapore still die from it everyday? It's such a painful pity.

I talked to so many of my female friends. Doesn't matter if they don't know that Cervical Cancer can be prevented because information can be passed on from you and me. But they display nonchalance at the mention of prevention against Cancer!

It breaks my heart and makes me very discouraged. Does awareness of everything have to be rooted from some form of incentive?

Does an ad have to go "Free XXX" or "Do XX and Win XX" before it gets our attention? It's really sad.

For what it's worth, not sure how many people out there are really reading my blog, I wish to urge everyone to spread the word on Cervical Cancer. Everything you need to know can be found here: www.pocc.sg

You can protect all the women you care for just by encouraging them to go for their regular pap smears and vaccinate against HPV. Empower them with knowledge. Your gfs, wives, female friends, colleagues, mother, aunties, cousins, and neighbours even.

Nobody deserves to die from a cancer that is so easily prevented. People say, the vaccine is costly. I say, could the cure be more expensive than the prevention? (It's about $420 and above for the entire dosage of the vaccine)

Isn't prevention better than cure?

I really hate to show you this but, this is what your cervix looks like when cancer has taken over.

(Image: CDC HPV Brochure)

Still think you are immune to it?

Cervical Cancer's most common cause is HPV - a very common disease that is spread through sexual activity. Up to 80% of women will get infected with HPV at least once in their lifetimes. Though not all HPVs will cause Cervical Cancer.

I hope through this blog entry, more women will be more aware of themselves and what can take away the happiness that they have in store for them in life.

Let's all lend a hand to this campaign in making the awareness of Cervical Cancer known to all the females we care about.

PLEDGE your support for this campaign by clicking here. The power of word of mouth can reach real far and wide. If you have a blog, blog about it. If you have Facebook, update it on your wall. If you have twitter, tweet about it.

Bottom line is:

If you can prevent a cancer, wouldn't you? Did you know that Cervical Cancer can be prevented by a vaccination? Much like a flu jab.

Power Over Cervical Cancer is a campaign that aims to make Singapore the country with the lowest incidence of Cervical Cancer and they need your help to spread the word.

Pledge your support for this cause and protect those you care about by telling them about Cervical Cancer. Together, we have POWER Over Cervical Cancer. Click the button below to begin!

Day #5, at Sapa, Part 1

This trip to Vietnam, Hanoi was made in March 2009. It's grossly overdue. I left off at Day #4 at my last burst of posting. :) You can read more about my trip to Hanoi here.

Now let's continue.

We took the overnight train from Hanoi to Sapa. The journey took damn long (abt 12 hours) and we slept most of the way.

This is Ah Long San (ALS aka Derek) and Kerk saying Good Night to Hanoi!

12 hours later, Hello SAPA! It's my fault that I decided there and then when we got off the train that I needed to pee. The toilet was..... traumatic to say the least.

1) No Door. Main Entrance to Female toilet don't have nvm... indvidual toilet also don't have!!!!!

2) Erm, Small. If missed a step, my bare ass would touch the gross tiled wall

3) The dustbin was incredibly near your nose when you squatted

Holy macaroni. I peed as quickly as I could and ran out gasping for fresh air.

The boys saw me and asked me how was it. I showed them this picture. 'Nuff said.

We took a walk around town and here's where the avalanche of images of the quaint little Sapa town will come.

The Sapa Tribal Touts!!

More of the touts awaiting for us outside the hotel!

A closer look at their dress

View from our bedroom to the great beyond

The local market

Our walk around town gave us some gruesome times as well. The people loved their dogs there. Both to eat and as a pet

Some were prettily (almost cruelly) "customised"...

And some, well... weren't so lucky.

Yup. My stomach churned and I nearly lost my breakfast at the sight of that.

After a short rest, we will be meeting with our guide and making the hike to the nearby tribes. Blog entry on this coming up real soon (Part 2, of Day 5 at Sapa!)

My renovation woes

Some time back, I chose, with much frustration, new tiles for my common bathroom cos the last set of tiles I chose seemed to be too drastically different from my master bedroom (not a bad thing except for the fact that one was super modern-themed and one was more resort-themed).

Johnny, my interior designer, showed me the revised drawings by placing them in front of me and I didn't even notice the difference. Oh dear... :/

I went back and thought about it and realised that I am heading nowhere at all. I felt lost.

Looking back, I realised that I think I made 2 mistakes from the beginning. 1) I chose the tiles even before I had an idea what the house should look like. 2) I casually mentioned in passing that I like white cabinets.

The result? PURE WHITE and black house. Too modern.

So I decided to email him and tell him what I felt and asked him if we could go back a few steps. I told him to imagine I am a new client and I come to him telling him I want a cozy place. To ask him to propose something as a whole - from wall paints to cabinet laminates, to curtains and vases - everything the designer needs to create that feel.

I told him that although I know that the 3D drawing does not give accurate colour on wall and cabinet laminates, I needed something to imagine from. Wouldn't you rather have something slightly inaccurate than nothing to imagine from at all?

I wondered if he would be angry with me about it. Afterall I handle such clients in my everyday job in advertising.

But he didn't. He was very cool about it and he said ok. I guess my expectations are really low and I have too soft a heart.

Anyway, but that's past. I am glad my house is slowly coming together. I will post pictures of it soon! :)

Here's a preview of my kitchen!

Imagination Takes Flight! Let's play with colours!

Who's up for some intense, shimmering hues for your peepers??? Inspired by the striking colours of butterflies, L'Oreal Paris Open Eyes Chrome Intensity eyeshadow palettes are truly bold, bright and beautiful.

Have you heard of it? Have you seen in stores? It's just launched! Well, being the workaholic that I am, its been ages since I last hung out at the cosmetics corner at Watsons/Guardian.

I'm lucky to be invited to launch of this great new product and I asked my sister and Angeline along to the Chrome Intensity Bloggers' Party by L'Oreal Paris Cosmetics. Who doesn't love an afternoon of playing with makeup and colour? Haha!
So there we were discussing makeup, taking photos and waiting for our turn for a makeover!

The event was held at Fika Cafe, a quaint little cafe that serves Swedish food. We each chose a swedish main course to share, a drink and even a dessert (which was yums btw).

We each got the wonderful 2 makeup artists to do a little makeup for us using the new L'Oreal Paris's Open Eyes Chrome Intensity eyeshadow palettes!

Julian, the makeup artist, chose AQUADISIAC for me.

Here's a description of this colour:
Aquadisiac brings you the blues - from aquamarine to indigo - in a clutch-friendly case.

And since I was in a happy blue toned dress, of course I had to have makeup in the same hue!

The other colours available are Pink Mania, Timeless Green and Magic Amber.

Do you guys think the result looks nice?

I think the Timeless Green is lovely! I love the shades! I can't wait to experiment with each. I gave my sister the AQUADISIAC palette since she uses blue more often than I do. It's ok, I like Timeless Green more

Do you know…

Each shade is awash in intense colour and delivers a highly pearlised finish. Colour payoff is also high in terms of fidelity (what you see if what you get) as well as pick-up!
I've got oily lids. So most eyeshadows won't last me past lunch! T_T I went for shopping in the mad hot weather after the event and still it stayed on!

I went for yoga class after that and while it was smudged a little, the colour was still visible! My sis's one was still very much in tact. Impressive.

And ladies, 65% of men say eyes are the first thing they notice about a woman. And this very generous gift from L'Oreal really came at the best time possible because as mentioned in an earlier post, it's time I took better care of my appearances.

Pretty cosmetics bags!! Both colours look lovely!

I got the Super Liner - waterproof gel eyeliner, 3 colour riche lipsticks (my all time favourite) and the Ultra Volume Collagene Mascara!

My boyfriend took a look at my treasures and proclaimed that this could last me a year! Haha.

Love the gifts!!

Check out the entire collection above!

My colleagues are going to be gawking at my colorful eyes these few coming weeks!! Hope I get the technique right! :X

L'Oreal Paris's Open Eyes Chrome Intensity eyeshadow palettes are now exclusively available at Watsons only! Come July, it will also be available at Guardian, selected departmental stores and major supermarkets and hypermarkets. It's limited edition, so do go check it out asap! :) Retails at $19.90 per palette.

Thank you L'Oreal for a wonderful afternoon.

Is this a sign of growing up?

Check out my awesome pile of evergrowing bills at the end of every month!

Its true what they say about how owning also means you have to tend to it. I want to do so many things with my life and I want to do it all now but I keep telling myself to slow it down. To take it in steps. Little ones but sure ones. Steps that will bring me to what I want to be.

And I am quite where I wanted to be. At the age of 20, I decided that advertising is something I can do well and I will succeed in it. I was both in a hurry to learn everything I can and be an account manager by 25. That's checked on my list now.

My other goal is to be an account director before 30. Can I do it? I believe I'm working hard and smart enough for this.

I wanted a house. All of my own. I wanted to own it. I wanted to buy pretty stuff at my whims and fancies and own it all. Although I share the house with the friggin' bank, its still mine to call home.

I wanted independence. I wanted to come home, kick off my shoes and sigh at the great feeling of lounging at home.

I want to be able to afford to pamper myself with gifts and stuff. My next goal is the LV Neverfull Bag if I get a promotion at work.

I have never owned a real branded bag before. The only real shebang is my COACH passport holder which was a gift. I should have something to call my very own.

And I will. Cos I only live once.

So bills or not, I'm exactly where I want to be.
